2022 Cabernet Franc

Tasting Notes: The 2022 Cabernet Franc is one for the history books. 

The quality of grapes in 2022 was exceptional across the board. Unfortunately, our total yield of grapes was down by almost 50% due to some winter damage.

Harvested from our oldest Cabernet Franc vines on the estate, this wine is aged in predominantly neutral French oak barrels for 20 months after fermentation to lend the wine structure without overpowering its natural, complex nose and palate. Like all of our reserve red wines, our Cabernet Franc is made with minimal intervention and bottled unfiltered to preserve its integrity and prolong its aging potential. 

The deep ruby red colour tells us right away how concentrated this wine is. The nose lures you in with a lightly spiced raspberry compote note. Hints of dried cranberry, violets and caraway add to this ripe and intriguing wine. You will encounter those raspberry compote characteristics again on the palate, along with savoury barrel aging notes, velvety but firm tannins and medium acidity.

The ripeness of this unfiltered wine, along with its firm, but extremely balanced structure, makes this wine approachable now. It is, however, an excellent wine for the serious collector.
